Recent Musical Explorations: the most current multi-pianist compact disc, Redwood Aire , is a collection of piano solos written and performed by the composers: Marilynn Tollefsen, Michael Coughenour, Tom Ganoung and Spencer Brewer.   This is the group's second recording together.   Their first self-titled recording, Laughter in the River , is in it's third pressing.   Tom's debut piano/keyboard album, childhood promise continues to delight the listening public, young and old.   In the spring of 2004, he accompanied vocalist daughter, Cynthia, on a piano/vocal album of jazz standards entitled Prelude to Love.

Tom played the very first Professional Pianist Concert; and has continued, each year. He has been soloing and playing ensemble with five other pianists, for over a decade. They have performed concerts over the years, which have benefited local educational and Arts organizations like The Good Shepherd Ecumenical Academy, Clear Lake Performing Arts (the Three Pianists: with David Neft and the honorable A. J. Franks), Lake County Arts Council, The Allegro Scholarship Program and The Ukiah Educational Foundation. Spencer has a beautifully appointed studio in Redwood Valley, where Kostia, Paul McCandless, Alex DeGrassi and Laughter in the River have recorded albums.

Marilynn, Michael and Tom founded the Ukiah School of Music in the fall of 1993.   An all-volunteer administration now provides professional quarters for full and part-time employment to twelve instructors in the areas of piano, orchestral instruments, rock and jazz guitar, bass, drums, vocal and performance arts to over 200 students each week.

Tom enjoys making tracks in a CD quality, sixteen track digital and MIDI recording project studio in Lake County.   He instructs fifty-five piano students each week at three locations: Ukiah School of Music, Ukiah Junior Academy and Lake Studio.

In January of 2000 Tom announced the creation of The Allegro Scholarship Program , as the result of a "real need situation".   In February of 2000 The Allegro Scholarship Program received its initial funding from Penofin-Performance Coatings and during the next year and a half, opened an opportunity for piano instruction to twelve gifted and deserving piano students in Lake and Mendocino Counties.   The Program is now seeking to expand its benefits.

Tom performs a variety of pieces including jazz standards by Hoagie Carmichael, Harold Arlen, George Gershwin, Dave Brubeck, Antonio Carlos Jobim.   Other material includes theatre musical hits, pop, latin and jazz, as well as original pieces.

A jazz arranging project was completed in November 2003 and "Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming" (for saxophone quintet) was performed on December 5, 7 and 10, 2003.    In 2004, consulting with Ukiah School of Music instructors and benefactor Peter Richardson, Tom established a new school location of all new internal construction in Ukiah.   The new facility, on Oak Street, boasts over 50% more space and several performance and recording advantages over the previous location. His most recent major project was producing the Fourth Annual Allegro Scholarship Program Benefit Concert, MUSIC!MUSIC!MUSIC!, on February 26, 2005. .   Tom is currently preparing several recordings, composing and arranging charts, teaching and seeking funding to obtain ownership of the new Ukiah School of Music facility. He sees music education and the live performance of the arts as vital resources for the survival of civilization.
